The 2023 badminton championship is not just about the dominance of one player or the same champion, but there is a story of the rise of world badminton athletes.
The Badminton World Federation (BWF) has released a list of players who will become champions throughout 2023 after a long absence from the podium.
A number of names appear on the list, such as Kento Momota, Carolina Marin, Kim Astrup/Anders Skaarup Rasmussen, Anders Antonsen, Lee Yang/Wang Chi Lin, and Beiwen Zhang.
There are no Indonesian players on the list because the Red and White representatives who won throughout 2023 are deemed not to have had a long gap in becoming title winners as in the list released by BWF.
Momota is the player with the shortest time span who was selected to be included in the list of rising players in 2023 by the BWF.
The former number one badminton player finished his title hunt in 721 days. After becoming champion of the 2021 Indonesia Masters, Momota became champion again at this year's Korea Masters.
Apart from that, there is Carolina Marin who needed 763 days to win the title again. The 2023 Orleans Masters will be the end of the title fast for the Spanish women's singles after bringing home the 2021 Swiss Open title.
Meanwhile, the break between champions Astrup/Rasmussen, from the Swiss Open 2021 to the Canadian Open 2023, reached 854 days.
Antonsen, who is Astrup/Rasmussen's compatriot, also took a long time, up to 903 days, to experience the title again. After winning the 2020 BWF World Tour Finals, Antonsen has just returned to the podium at the 2023 Korea Open.
Only seven days different from Antonsen are Lee/Wang. The men's doubles pair from Taiwan just won the title at the 2023 Japan Open after last becoming champions at the 2020 BWF World Tour Finals, or taking 910 days.
Meanwhile, the player who took the longest time to feel the title of champion again was Beiwen. The United States representative took 2,009 days to become champion again. After becoming India's champion. Open 2018, Beiwen was again the winner in the final match of the Australian Open 2023.
